The year 1999 saw the release of one of the most underrated albums of
said year. D.D. Verni’s sidekick THE BRONX CASKET CO. had to fight the
“project”-smell and needed some months before it was later explored as a
real classic by the press. D.D. now proves all of those wrong, who say
THE BRONX CASKET CO. as a short-lived project. “SWEET HOME
TRANSYLVANIA”, the second albums is now ready and tops the extraordinary
qualities of the debut. Mainman was able to keep the same line-up,
including the charismatic ex-Misfits singer Spy, riffmonster Jack Frost
(now playing in Savatage), his old Overkill-fellow Tim Mallare and last
but not least Charlie Calv on the keys. “SWEET HOME TRANSYLVANIA” show
the immense songwriting talent of D.D. Verni, which he can’t fully
explore in Overkill. Ultra-heavy doom meets Type O-style gothic but the
new album rocks way more than the debut. The sarcastic opener “Jesus
doesn’t live here anymore” is the perfect introduction before “The Other
Me” surprises with hitpotential and a murder-groove. “Black Valentine”
and the new band hymn “BCC/Sweet Home Transylvania” also groove like
hell. This new album has a varied, rocky sound and impresses with a
prefect concept. Starting with the songs over the massive proudction to
the remarkable artwork, which needs to be mentioned as one of the best
being released this year. “SWEET HOME TRANSYLVANIA” has an immense
potential and D.D. already announced European shows with THE BRONX
CASKET CO. for this year’s fall.
